Pacific Dunes RV Park – Oceano, CA

We stopped at a Harvest Host (HH) for the night. Geissinger Winery offered delicious wines, and we met other members of HH and enjoyed their company. We made it to the Pacific Coast! We stayed at the Pacific Dunes Ranch RV Park. Our site was overlooking the dunes, and the sunsets were spectacular each night. It was a mile walk on the dunes to reach the beach. The winds created ripples in the sand, but for the most part, the sand was firm to walk on.

We rode to the nearby town of San Luis Obispo, where they host a farmers market each Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m. This was so much fun as we watched the eateries set up their stands and begin to cook their specialties. Lines formed just waiting for 6 p.m. to enjoy BBQ, roasted corn, and other delectibles. The produce stands stood out to me as everything was fresh, ample, and reasonably priced. Most shops along the street were open, and we stopped in the Turkish store offering baklava, Turkish candy, and coffee. We sampled the candy, and it was intriguing and delicious.

We hiked to Pirates Cove. The open cave gave us an overview of the Pacific Ocean, and we stayed to listen to the surf. The other side of the trail led to the beach below, where a young crowd gathered as they listened to music while soaking up the sun.

The next day, we hiked the Montana de Oro Bluff trail, a four-mile hike along the Pacific shoreline. What a glorious morning to be hiking! The temperature was perfect, and the sound of the ocean lapping against the shoreline accompanied us along the way. Watching the waves crash against the rocks and explode into a grand water spray is mesmerizing. How lucky was I to capture a rainbow as the water exploded when the wave crashed into the rock? The pelicans cascaded along the cliffs, making their flight appear graceful and effortless. While we are familiar with vast amounts of water coming from Florida, nothing compares to the energy and robustness of the Pacific waters.
