La Push, WA-Quileute Oceanside RV Park 1st and 2nd beach & Cape Flattery

Our stay at the Quileute Oceanside RV Park is one we enjoyed. This park is located at 1st Beach, and from our RV, we could hear the ocean waves as they forcefully approached the shore. Within a few short steps, we were strolling on the Beach. The vast tree trunks were a surprise. While visiting this coast, we have witnessed beaches with considerable accumulation of tree remnants, but nothing compared to the size of these tree trunks. We sat on one of the trunks to enjoy the seagulls gliding effortlessly above the waves below. A bald eagle appeared and then quickly vanished into the forest above.

2nd Beach was a downhill hike to the shore, and our low tide visit allowed us to explore the tide pools. I was intrigued by the haystacks that were prominent from the shore. Seeing these stacks of stone was interesting, but the number of trees growing on top made me wonder what the scenery looked like eons ago.

Our day excursion was to drive to Cape Flattery, the northwesternmost point in the continental United States. The hike to the end was through a dense forest over a lengthy rustic boardwalk. From this point, one can see Tatoosh Island, which houses a non-working lighthouse. You can often see whales and sea otters, but we weren’t so lucky. From the viewpoint, there are several sea caves and stony cliffs.

La Push was not far from Forks, WA, where the movie and novel “Twilight” were portrayed. However, we found out the primary filming took place in and around Portland, Oregon.
