Eugene, OR Armitage County Park

Best Biking State

Oregon is the most bike-friendly state we’ve been to. We usually try to find trails to ride so we don’t have to deal with the traffic. However, riding through downtown Eugene, I felt safe. The bike lanes are plentiful and broad. They even had unique traffic lights for the bike lane, which allowed the bikes to go before those cars turned into traffic.  If only more states would follow suit, making bike riding off the trails safer. We rode the Willamette River bike trail, which passed the University and a stop downtown to a shopping center.

Spencer Butte Trail—This was a good hike. It was steady uphill, and the view from the top was gratifying as we overlooked the mountain peaks. We met a gentleman who climbed this as a prelude to some of the more challenging hikes in the area. Since he was local, I asked him where would be an excellent place to see the night sky without climbing a trail in the dark. Indications were there was a strong possibility to see the Northern Lights, and I wanted to be there. However, we could not see a single glimmer of the elusive Northern lights. UGH!!!
