Cochoti, New Mexico

Cochoti Lake Campground is a Corp of Engineers facility, which we will always choose as our first choice if available. The campsites were spacious in quiet surroundings, and our spot overlooking the lake. It was a 40-minute drive to get to Santa Fe.

Santa Fe—The town offers many southwestern shops and restaurants. We visited the state capital building, which has three floors of art for public viewing. The beauty of the dome was worth the visit alone. From there, we visited San Miquel Chapel. Built-in 1610, it is said to be the oldest church building in the continental United States. Before leaving, I tapped the bell, which said to honor requests.

Across the street is the DeVargas Street house, one of the oldest buildings in America. I’m unsure who determines that it is, but it’s interesting nonetheless. Being only five feet, it was neat that I could stand in the doorway and reach the top. Yes, I get excited about simple things.

After our walking tour, we sat in the town square under the trees and watched as people were startled by someone dressed as a clump of foliage who jumped out to greet them. Here are some pictures of the town stroll. I loved the statues that adorned the town.
