Great Plains State Park & Wichita Mountains, Oklahoma
We stopped at the Bar Z Winery, our favorite type of Harvest Host, for an overnight stay. We met some great people, some from Australia, and enjoyed great conversation and wine. The next day, we traveled to Oklahoma and stayed at Great Plains State Park. It was on a reservoir, and the sites had ample space. There were a lot of empty campsites available during our stay. Perhaps it was the time of the year. It was close to the Witchita Mountains, which is our main reason for choosing this campground.
Elk Mountain Trail—This was a 2.3-mile out-and-back trail with a great view from the top.
Mountains Forty-Foot Hole Trail – This short, easy hike led to a raven. We were the only ones on the trail.
Mount Scott Overlook is a three-mile paved road leading to a beautiful vista of southwest Oklahoma. It is 2,464 feet above sea level.
