Lagos, Portugal
We were on our way to Lagos. We had train tickets; however, it was a 3.5-hour ride, and after the last train ride, we decided to rent a car and drive. Lagos is known primarily for its fabulous beaches with impressive limestone rock formations. We stayed in an amazing Airbnb. It was chosen due to its distance from the beach, but whoever owned this property had given much thought to having everything you would need, especially if you had children.
We couldn’t wait to get settled, walk into the town, and smell the sea air. We lunched at a rooftop restaurant overlooking the ocean. The following day, we walked to the marketplace. Fresh fish of all kinds were displayed on ice, waiting to be purchased. The vegetables, fruit, and other items were upstairs from the fish market. The grottos were calling our name, and we had to find an establishment to take our 9-month-old. This boat ride was the best part of the trip. Each alcove was a different adventure, and we didn’t want the journey to end.
It was time to head back to Lisbon for our trip home. The scenery was beautiful, and we stopped outside Porto Covo for lunch. This area is known for surfers; there were a few that afternoon. Portugal was a country on our bucket list, but what made it more special was being with our daughter and her family. We also were privileged to see our granddaughter crawl for the first time—precious moments always to be remembered.
