Our Most Unexpected Harvest Hosts Stay Yet: A Quilter’s Paradise in Missouri

As many of you know, Harvest Hosts has been our secret weapon for finding incredible one-night stopovers. We usually gravitate toward wineries—Mitch’s personal favorite—but we’ve stumbled upon some truly unique spots over the years. This last one, though, was a first for us. As a passionate sewer, I’d been looking forward to it for weeks.
Of course, our GPS decided to play a trick on us. We found ourselves bumping along a dirt road, scratching our heads and wondering why a quilting store would be in the middle of nowhere. After a quick call to the shop, we realized we’d driven right past it. Turning a 40-foot fifth wheel around on a narrow road isn’t exactly easy. Mitch and I just stared at each other in disbelief, “How on earth did we miss that?” The big red barn was right off the main highway! That’s what happens when I’m on a phone and Mitch is trusting the GPS a little too much.
When we finally got there, there was plenty of space to park our rig. I gave Mitch a pass on this one and went into the shop solo. What I found inside was the largest fabric and quilting store I have ever seen. I was in absolute awe of the massive number of fabric bolts on display. Photos weren’t allowed, but you can check out their website to see for yourself.https://www.rustymoonquilts.com/ I was in pure fabric heaven. It’s a good thing we don’t live in Missouri, because I can absolutely picture myself here every single week.
Beyond the incredible selection, this business also offers quilting retreats. The upstairs is a dedicated space with bedrooms, an eating area, and a huge workspace for quilters to spend an entire weekend. They even have live Zoom sales on Facebook where you can buy fabric and other products, and no matter the size of your order, shipping is just $9.95. Honestly, I wish they hadn’t told me that!
