500 Miles, 4 Nights: RV Life’s Ultimate Quick-Stop Challenge (Wineries, Fairgrounds & Secret Lodges!)

Hey, fellow road warriors! Ever look at a 500-mile stretch on the map and sigh? We did. But this week, we turned a major travel leg—spanning the entire state of Nebraska and into Kansas—into a rapid-fire, 4-night adventure!

Stop 1: Ogallala, NE – Our First Moose Lodge Overnight

The secret to affordable, friendly RV travel? Look beyond the campgrounds! A fellow full-timer gave us the insider tip to check out the Moose Club. With locations nationwide, it’s a fantastic network for safe, budget-conscious parking. We joined up and decided to test the waters.

Our inaugural Moose Lodge stay was a winner! We found ample parking, and the best part? They had water and 30-amp electric hookups available. This stop was pure, simple convenience—a perfect break to recharge the batteries (ours and the RV’s!) and prove that sometimes, the best amenities are the simplest ones.

Stop 2: Lexington, NE – Mac’s Creek Winery (Harvest Host Gem!)

This is why we love Harvest Hosts. Rolling into Mac’s Creek, we immediately felt the peaceful, vineyard atmosphere—a total upgrade from a roadside stop. Our oversized 5th wheel fit easily into their designated parking area, leaving us plenty of room to stretch out.

You can’t stay at a winery and not patronize the business! We snagged a bottle of their delightful Honeycrisp wine (a must-try!) and, the real revelation? Their homemade, creamy spinach artichoke dip. It was so ridiculously good that we ordered a second plate.

Stop 3: York, NE – York County Fairgrounds

We pulled into the York County Fairgrounds for a truly authentic RV experience. With fair season done for the year, we had the place to ourselves. This spot was a classic “boondocking plus” stay. We enjoyed 30/50-amp electrical access, making it easy to run the A/C, and water was available. If you’re tanked up and need a power boost, fairgrounds like this are a gold mine for spacious, affordable overnights.

Stop 4: Salina, KS – Salina Municipal Golf Course (Harvest Host)

Arriving in Salina, Kansas, we landed at our final stop: a bustling municipal golf course. Even pulling in around 3:00 PM, with golfers everywhere, there was plenty of parking reserved for us Harvest Host members. Time to test our off-grid capabilities! This stop was strictly boondocking, meaning no hookups. We were so thankful for our solar setup!

After four days and 500+ miles of quick travel stops, we’ve finally reached our destination and are officially hitting the pause button. Our trip proved that variety is the spice of RV life, and that memberships like Harvest Hosts and the Moose Club can truly transform long hauls!
