Feet on the Ground in Texas: Home Base for Grandkids, Lake Houses, and Ladybugs!
After four incredible days of travel, arriving in Texas wasn’t just a stop—it was a deep, welcome sigh of relief. We’ve officially put down some temporary roots, and the best part is that we’re settling in near our daughter and her family!
Tiny Texans & Big News
Our granddaughter is nearing her second birthday, and I must say, she is an absolute delight. She is a spitfire. I’ve never witnessed such independence in a child so young! It’s tough to watch her struggle with something and try to help her, only to be told “NO”. After a few minutes of her realizing she can’t, then you hear her say that sweet little word, “Help,”
Grandchildren truly are one of life’s greatest joys. You get to relive all those precious moments from years ago, but this time, you get to skip the endless cycle of parental responsibility. Chores, bills, work, and even the planning of our next big trip have been happily pushed to the back burner. For now, the entire focus is on the present.
The joy doesn’t stop there! We have some major news to share: both our daughter and our son (who is flying out to join us for Thanksgiving!) are expecting baby girls in April! And get this—their due dates are only a week apart. Double the pink, double the joy!
From RV Life to Lake Life?
Our time in the Lone Star State is about more than just family cuddles. It’s also a serious mission to find our lakehouse. After six incredible years of full-time RVing, we’ve decided we’re ready for a semi-permanent home base.
That doesn’t mean our travel days are over—far from it! Our trips will just be shorter and maybe a little less focused on outrunning invasive species.
When Cute Little Bugs Attack
Speaking of species, this travel year must have been a magnet for creepy crawlies! If you remember the dreaded no-see-ums fiasco, you’ll know our luck hasn’t been great.
The latest saga began when Mitch spotted a ladybug outside our RV. Aww, aren’t they just the cutest? The next day, those “lovely ladies” were swarming all over the RV and totally freaked us out.
Turns out, they weren’t ladybugs at all, but Asian Lady Beetles. And yes, they can bite. Thankfully, we haven’t experienced that, but seeing them dot the ceiling each night definitely gave us the creeps. We think we’ve finally evicted them.
Oh, and as a fun little side note: did I mention that Texas also has Black Widow spiders? (Sorry, Mitch. I know how you feel about spiders!)
A Pause for Life’s Best Moments
We likely won’t be posting much in the next couple of months. We’ll be busy watching our little granddaughter Trick-or-Treat as Minnie Mouse and preparing for a very special Thanksgiving with both of our children.
Life is good, our hearts are full, and we are incredibly grateful and blessed.
