    Emotional Transition

change just aheadWell, we are down to the last steps on getting the house ready.  Garage sale items ready to go on to their new homes.  Professional cleaners and photographers are the final steps before putting our home on the market.  It has been interesting, to say the least.  The process began in February with tears and fears. After months of selling, de-cluttering and staging our home and weekends of no relaxation I can say truthfully, “Let’s get this over with”.

I compare this to the grieving stages.  In the beginning, your world is ending and after going through each stage you come out knowing everything will be alright.  You never forget, and at times the memories are strong but somehow you know you are in a better place. The last stage for us will be handing the keys over to new owners and entering our 5th wheel, not as a weekend gig but our new full time home.

I didn’t think I would ever say this, but, I am ready.  My husband was ready a year ago.  I ask the powers that be for a good sale which will elongate the time spent on the road visiting the many places on our wish list.  When all is said and done,   I will finally settle in a comfy chair with a hot cup of coffee overlooking the peaceful calling of the lake.

    Big Canoe, Georgia

big canoeWe celebrated my husband’s 60th birthday by taking a family vacation in the Georgia Mountains.  A rented villa nestled in the beautiful landscape of Big Canoe.  This area is home to a quaint Lake Petit.  Always near a lake for me, it’s my destiny.

This place had something for everyone: fishing for my son, a lake for me, vineyards for my daughter and hiking trails and a swimming pool for my husband.  On the first day of our vacation, we saw a momma black bear and its three cubs roaming outside our villa.  The only other time we had seen bears were in the zoo. We kayaked on the tranquil waters of the lake listening to the birds chirp and feeling the soft breeze gently caressing our faces.  We enjoyed wine at the Fainting Goat Vineyard.  Much to our dismay, there were goats but none of them fainted- a major disappointment for all of us.  We also checked out the Montaluce Winery, which should be on everyone’s list.

As we traveled to the vineyard, meandering up and down curvy roads that traverse the mountain, my first thought was this would not be something we could do in the fifth wheel.  It seems everywhere we venture the thoughts in the back of our heads are,” Is this an area we could come with our rig?”

We passed many campground signs before reaching our destination but as we approached the steep incline of the mountains before us, the signs diminished.  I guess this would be where you park your rig and then take day trips to the other areas you want to explore.

After a wonderful day, I sat on the veranda listening to the crickets, watching the fireflies flitting about and breathing the fresh mountain air.  Yeah, life is good as I felt a complete utter sense of peace.

    The Next Step

    Joy's JOY of Wine
    Joy’s JOY of Wine

We are almost there.  Three more big projects before our house will be available on the market.  Two of them are being taken care of this weekend.  The third one will be done by next week.  Like any big event in life, documentation is warranted.  The house will be ready for its photoshoot and show off all its glory.

The next step becomes a little harder for us. Unlike others who travel in an RV, our adventure won’t start for a while.  The search begins for a place to park our rig until we can actually retire.  There aren’t many options available as there are maybe five places close to our work and can accommodate the size of our fifth wheel.

We checked out one place but the sites were small. It would be okay if we were to stay put for a while but we still intend to camp at least once a month and getting in and out would be a hassle. So the search continues.  What would be ideal is to find someone who lives in an unincorporated area with some acreage.  If they had a 50 amp hook up and sewer connection – we would be set.   We would be the ideal tenants.  So I am throwing it out to the universe and see if it answers us back.  Doesn’t the saying go, “Ask and you shall receive”?

We are asking and will let you know if and when there is an answer.
