A Day in Charming Linz

As Austria’s third-largest city, Linz seamlessly blends rich history with a charming, walkable feel.

Our time here centered around the Hauptplatz, one of Europe’s largest enclosed town squares. Standing tall right in the heart of the action is the impressive Trinity Column, framed by vibrant flowerbeds and cozy local storefronts that practically beg you to wander in.

One of the coolest surprises happened when our guide led us into a municipal building. Spread across the floor was a massive, detailed map of Linz itself—a quirky, mesmerizing touch I’d never seen anywhere else on my travels. Everywhere you look, the city’s streets are splashed with color and whimsy thanks to blooming magnolia and crepe myrtle trees.

And, of course, no European city is complete without its iconic houses of worship. While the Ursuline Church is undeniably grand, the Old Cathedral stole my heart. The interior is a pastel dream, boasting gorgeous pink marble pillars and intricate alcoves that feel wonderfully warm and elegant.

Linz Castle is perched high above the city on the historic site of the ancient Roman fort Lentia; it rewards you with breathtaking panoramic views of the Old Town and the sweeping Danube River below.

By the end of the day, our step counters were easily flexing six-digit territories—but honestly, when a city is this captivating, every single step is worth it.
