Shedding Light on Mitch’s New “Mancave”

Mitch’s next project on the grand agenda? Tearing down our sad old shed and erecting a new one. Now, I will freely admit the lawn equipment was living a little cramped in its current quarters. However, trying to negotiate the gap between the “ample space we actually needed” and the “imaginary-sized hangar” Mitch insisted we needed led to quite a few… friendly chats.

Phase one required enlarging the foundation and pouring new concrete. And as we all know, concrete needs to rest. What we didn’t expect was a snowstorm right after the pour. Our very first snowstorm, in fact! Look, unless we are actively paying for a ski vacation, snow is not a familiar sight for people who have lived in Florida for 43 years, nor did we anticipate seeing it here.

Next came the actual raising of the shed. I must say, it went up surprisingly fast. But the real marathon began when Mitch went to work “allocating the space.”

For weeks, the soundtrack to my life was a broken record of:

“I need this specific tool,” or “Hon, this would really make things easier if I had this equiptment.”

All I can say is that, given the new arsenal of hardware out there and the many trips to Harbor Freight and Lowes, my own honey-do list should be completed flawlessly, without a single “I don’t have the right tool” excuse ever again.

In the end, though, it’s comforting to know Mitch is happy with his new workshop. He loves working in his mancave, and at times I have to ring the bell to get him to come out.
