The Fun Begins

This might not be the most glamorous update, but it’s our current reality. During the inspection, we discovered the house generator was out of commission. It hadn’t been run since April 2025, Having only ever used portable ones while traveling, a whole-home system was new territory for us.

In this area, high winds and rainstorms like to play tag with the power lines, so getting that generator running became Priority #1. A huge shoutout to Taylor of TFish Electric and his crew, who were incredibly helpful in getting us up to speed! Getting it operational and up to safety standards, was an all day projet. We’ve since learned that these systems “exercise” themselves for about 15–20 minutes every week to stay in peak shape.

The first time the power actually flickered, the sudden roar of the engine was a bit nerve-racking—but I suppose that’s a small price to pay to keep the lights on. We haven’t had an outage since, and we’ve officially moved on to the next project. It was a good (if noisy) reminder that no house is ever truly maintenance-free!
